I have never left a film half way in my life until this one. I just didn't connect with any of the protagonists. It wasn't scary, just seemed random and I totally lost interest. The Shining was iconic. This was moronic. And seeing children killed is not really my bag. I officially have a new favorite Stephen King movie. My girlfriend and I went to a test screening for this late 2019 and by now I have watched at least 5 or 6 times. This movie is beyond great to me and that is a serious understatement. If you are a fan of The Shining let me tell you that you are MISSING OUT if you pass on this movie. I advise you to at least look up the original story however because it is based more off of the book. Even if you are unfamiliar with the Shining though I promise this movie will still deliver simply due to the fact that it does many different genres well all at once. A true masterpiece.

This movie is plodding, uneven and too long. That said, the new characters are fun and interesting and the third act plays such wonderful homage to the original Shining that I'm really glad I saw it. I suspect if you're a fan- you should see it too.
